Is it expensive to buy seafood/fishood for Sushi?
I am a big fan of sushi and I was wondering how much it costs to buy the sea urchin, eel, octopus etc. I know that I will have to go to a speacial seafood store for this, and I was wondering what I might expect to pay for the fish and other meat?
It is just that I am tired of spending $20.00 to have my fill at lunch and thought that it might be cheeper to make it myself.
Unless I knew where you lived - I really couldn't tell you exact prices - $20 is actually a good deal, because I know that tuna steaks cost me about $11.99 a lb at albertsons, and as for the rest of the ingredients, they go bad quickly and you've got to keep it fresh for sushi. Some of it would be cheaper though - like the crab meat and the actual stuff to make sushi. You should ask the sushi place where they get their seafood and go from there.

How to buy sustainable seafood I Dining Out
Where can I buy fresh seafood in San Francisco?
I live in the East Bay but work in SF and figured I could probably get the freshest seafood there. Any recommendations?
The open markets at Fisherman's' Wharf, the indoor market at the Ferry Building, and the Stockton street section of China Town are all good. In the East Bay, there is the Webster Street corridor of Oakland China town, and the Foothill Blvd area of the Fruitvale District (also Oakland) .
