You are learning that having money does not automatically mean you have taste or class.
I don't think there is anything wrong with spending a lot on a wedding. I have been to several wonderful weddings that cost well over $100,000. But I have learned that many people try to use a wedding to show off how much money they have, rather than to focus on providing a good time for their guests.
All you can really do is to try to take the high road and ignore them. They are probably just excited about their wedding plans and do not know of a tasteful way to talk about it, other than focusing on the cost. On the same side, you might also be sensitive to the price difference of the two weddings, and might be reading more in to what they are saying than is necessary.
