What to do in New Orleans?
I am going to be visiting New Orleans next weekend and I was hoping some locals could tell me what we NEED to see while there. There is just way too much information online to wade through everything, and I would like to find some unique stuff that I won't see anywhere else and that maybe aren't so tourist-y.
We are going to be staying in the French Quarter, and I don't really want to drive a whole lot (unless there is something that is really great). I'm already planning on going tot he Audubon Insect Zoo thing and a Voodoo museum (which is the best?). I also want to go on a ghost tour (again any suggestions), and of course at least one night of drinking on Bourbon Street.
Other than that, I would really appreciate suggestions for unique shopping, museums, or attractions. Also are there any really good seafood restaurants that you guys will vouch for?
Pretty much any suggestions about what is worth seeing in NOLA are appreciated!
Thanks
Eat: Café Du monde, The Coffee Pot( my favorite red beans) Petunias
Muriels, Brennans(this would be my third choice because it is yummy but very noisy!)
Commanders Palace, Brigtsens, Crepe Nanou, Jacquimo's,,, Upperline there are not in the FQ but worth it
If you want hamburgers go to Yo mama’s Bar and grill they also boil crawfish during the season and they are good. Also don’t forget to try a po boy at johnny’s, Domilieses, or parasols. Also for much and or dinner or just drinks try the Napolean house they have the famous pimms cup.
To do: The zoo is great and so is the aquarium. I also suggest stopping by the historic New Orleans collection.
I suggest having drinks at Pat o’s courtyard, lafittes blacksmith shop, and the columns hotel uptown(take the streetcar down St. Charles ave.
The FQ has great shopping as so does Magazine Street.
I suggest going on Atchafalya Basin air boat swamp tour!
Music- Preservation Hall, tipitinas(uptown)they do Cajun line dancing on Sundays) Snug Harbor, There is a few music joints on Frenchman street. Preservation hall does not seel alcohal so the kids can go too!!!!
Also NOLA has many festivals I would try those out as well.

Cabs are cheap in new orleans you won't need a car unless you are driving outside of new orleans to do a swamp tour or something
Oh and another thing. I hate drinking on bourbon street it is terrible. We like pat o's that is as close to bourbon street we get unless we are at lafittes. There is more to new orleans than the french quarter. There is nice bars on magazine street and nice shopping. Some of the best restaurants are outside of the french quarter. Garden District has some beautful houses and it is nice riding down st. charles on the street car and stop at columns hotel.
