live lobster Can someone tell me how to cook a live lobster and subsequently serve it?
Need tips on cooking and serving lobster. Also, what sides go well with lobster?
How to Cook Maine Lobster
The two most common ways to cook lobsters are steaming and boiling:
To steam lobsters, put about 2 inches of salted water in the bottom of a large kettle. Bring the water to a rolling boil and put in the live lobster, one at a time. Cover kettle, return water to boiling and begin timing. Allow 18 minutes for 1 to 1¼ pound hard-shell lobsters.
To boil lobsters, fill a large kettle ¼ full of water. If sea water is not available, add two tablespoons of salt for each quart of water. A good rule of thumb is to allow 2½ quarts of water for each lobster. Bring the water to a boil. Put in the live lobsters one at a time and let the water boil again. Cover kettle and simmer about 15 minutes for 1 to 1¼ pound hard-shell lobsters. If the lobster is a New Shell Maine Lobster with a soft shell, reduce boiling or steaming time by three minutes. When the antennae pull out easily, the lobsters are done. Serve immediately with warm butter and lemon wedges.
Sides: Green Salad w/balsamic vinegar dressing Hard rolls with lots of butter

This record shook up the snoozing world of rock in 1979, becoming a truly classic disc, one full of landmark moments and heavy with possibilities. Most "real" rockers in the late '70s tried hard to ignore the Sex Pistols and the Clash, claiming the punk tumult was a merely a fad; but fun-loving types couldn't resist the magnificent hooks and grooves of the B-52's debut...

Taken in one concentrated best-of dose, it becomes evident what a coup the B-52's pulled off when they turned their own concentrated craziness into genuine hits. This is some of the weirdest stuff ever to make the charts, much less be loved by the masses...

I've lived in the Caribbean for 20 years and the best advice I can give you is The first thing you need to do is GET REAL. Like most AmeriKans you have a completely distorted view of life in the Caribbean. What you WANT just doesn't exist. Anyway, Here is the best advice I can give you.. READ UP ON THE IMMIGRATION LAWS.. for the DR for example, you need to post a $17,000 bond EACH in a DR bank just to be able to apply for resident alien status.. but some countries cost much more.. you have to PAY A YEARLY FEE of THOUSANDS of dollars to live in some countries.. Antigua charges $20,000 PER PERSON PER YEAR for example
Usually, I would just stop here.. but since you are a VET I'll give you a heads up to some of the things I have learned by living in the Caribbean for 20 years. I strongly suggest you print this off so you can refer back to the informaiton.
CARIBBEAN BASIC SURVIVAL
FIRST" Learn the LANGUAGES of the Caribbean.. At the very least learn SPANISH and learn it FLUENTLY.. Not just the usual 20 words that most Amerikans know so they can delude their selves into believing they can actually SPEAK Spanish. But FLUENTLY.. that means SPEAKING ,, READING and WRITING Spanish at least an 8th grade level.
SECOND: Get a MARKETABLE SKILL. The ONE THING that is not needed is another Amerikan going to the Caribbean to TEACH ENGLISH... when most of them can't even speak it or write it their selves. They also do not need another MISSIONARY who thinks they can bring their narrow mined version of GEEZUS to the "ignorant savages" in the Caribbean.. Most of whom are more spiritual than the missionaries.
THIRD get TRAINING in the skill of your choice. Most TRADE SCHOOLS and AREA 9 JR. COLLEGES have courses in REFRIGERATION and AUTO MECHANICS and DIESEL MECHANICS and WELDING and someone who has any ONE of those skills can earn a living but someone who can do 2 or 3 or more WILL BE WORKING CONSTANTLY.. These TRADE SCHOOL skills transfer directly to the needs of the Caribbean.
FORTH: Take enough money to last you at least a YEAR and living in the Caribbean is more expensive than in the US.. Take at least $5000 IN CASH but you will have to augment that with whatever money you can make because $5000 is barely enough for 6 months by itself.
FIFTH: Get a PASSPORT. AmeriKans all have this ‘thing' about not wanting a PASSPORT and think they should be able to go to any foreign country with an expired driver's license and an old utility bill.. THEY CAN'T.. A PASSPORT is absolutely MANDATORY unless you want to be stuck in the Amerikan part of the Caribbean and cut your chances of going to the really GOOD and GREAT islands
CULTURE SHOCK: If you have spent all your life in AmeriKa then you are in for a real CULTURE SHOCK. I have seen Amerikans who were traumatized to the point of being unable to function when they wre faced with the CULTURE and LIVING CONDITIONS on some of the third world islands.. So be prepared for what you will SEE and HEAR and SMELL in third world countries.. YOU AIN'T IN KANSAS ANY LONGER TOTO.

IMMIGRATION RULES AND REGS
There is no one single or simple answer about immigration to a Caribbean island because they are all COUNTRIES and as countries they all have their own requirements for immigration. However, there are some things in common.
1)You can expect to post some kind of surety. It can be in the form of a CASH BOND on by buying property as determined and required by the Immigration officd of the country
2)You will need to provide PROOF of an independent income. You can not WORK on a Tourist visa so you will need a letter from your BANK or BROKERAGE or a recognized financial institution
3)You will need to provide PROOF that you have HEALTH INSURANCE. And Medicare or Medicaid DOES NOT APPLY.. In fact.. Medicare is only good for 30 DAYS once you leave the US and Medicaid IS NOT ACCEPTED ANYWHERE.
4)You will need your PASSPORT and at least 2 additional PASSPORT PHOTOS
5)You can expect to spend from one day to one week with the immigation office at the Consulate of the island you wish to locate to. And you can expect to pay at least $200 (or more) for all the paperwork.
